Every problem generated by this tool divides evenly. The generator works in reverse: it first selects a divisor and a quotient based on your settings, then multiplies them to determine the dividend. This logic guarantees there are never leftover amounts. Removing remainders allows students to learn the core steps of division without the added complexity of decimals or fractional remainders.
Select the number of problems based on the goal of the session. Ten problems are ideal for quick warm-ups or exit tickets and usually take 5–15 minutes. Twenty problems provide a solid balance for homework or in-class assignments. For test preparation or building stamina, you can generate up to 100 problems.
Click "Generate Problems" to create a new set of questions. The generator uses random numbers within your chosen parameters, ensuring that every sheet is unique. You can click the button multiple times to create different versions of the same worksheet for different students, which helps prevent copying and encourages independent work.
The "Problems" box contains the questions for the students. Click "Print" in the header of that box to generate a clean worksheet without the answers. The "Answers" box provides the solutions—print this separately for grading or to allow students to self-check their work. The print layout is optimized to remove web navigation, leaving only the numbered problems and enough white space for written work.
Start with 1x1 digit problems to ensure the student has mastered basic division facts. Once they can recall these quickly, move to 2x1 digit problems to introduce the long division layout. After they are comfortable with the process, progress to 2x2 digits and larger. Each step increases the number of multiplication and subtraction cycles required to solve the problem.
